installing & running evince-gtk.
It seems that everything is ok.

Maybe that was issue related to evince configuration in ~/.evince. I
will check this tomorrow.

I don't know how this happend but now evince-gtk works.
I have build and installed evince-gtk with debug symbols and then the original
evince-gtk.

I have the same problem. I have install xubuntu-desktop on x86 edgy.
Evince crashes every time I am trying to run it.

I have the same bug. I upgraded "evince 0.5.2-ubuntu3" to "evince-gtk
0.5.2-ubuntu2" this morning and evince since crash with segfault every
time.
I'm on dapper i386, so yes it's a x86 platform.
BTW the link you gave only helps building a debug application, the
backtrace/valgrind links are not
