I'd also like to give a huge "THANK YOU!" to the Ubuntu community...
this is by far a much better setup than the popular "more expensive" OS
for which we pay an arm and leg, and then receive no help, but instead
are left to the wolves to figure out what someone else wrote. ;)

Yes, so far as I know, that is precisely the upgrade that was performed.

Check the directory /boot/ for the files initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic and
vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic. If the files are present go further with the
