unfortunately, the version you mentioned (evdev 2.4.0) is not out yet.
It is indeed a bug in the evdev driver which is already fixed on the upstream
source server. Compiling and installing the head revision from their repository
fixes the bug (at least it did so on my machine).

According to bug #437862 referenced by Christian, a fix to the package
"xserver-xorg-input-evdev" should resolve our issue. I believe the fix
is made to version 2.4.0. However, the latest version in Ubuntu's
repository is 2.2.5-1 (which is the version I have installed). Can

Pretty much the same issue here, I only found out the USB mouse worked
after trying one that was close by as a trial. I assume if I had a USB
keyboard it would work too, but I don't happen to have only handy.
Proposed work-around doesn't work for me since I don't have a mouse

this seems to be similar to the problems that people have been having
when they suspend their laptops and when they un-suspend them, their
wireless needs to be restarted.

To keep from forcing a restart, I press the "Log in with a different
user" (not sure about exact verbiage at the moment). This brings me to
a different login screen with more features. I can pull up an on-screen
keyboard where I can use my mouse to type in my password to get back to
my desktop.
Of course you are right! With my workaround (which is clearly nowhere
near an actual solution) I tried to give the guys from upstream a hint
in the right direction...
I don't think the bug is located around pm-utils, because one is not
affected by the bug when x is not running!
cheers!

Thanks for the info. Suspend is not a major requirement for me, so I may
just leave things as is. More than anything, I wanted to bring up the issue
for upstream correction in future versions.
It is my firm belief that Linux can be and is almost everything that Windows
isn't. I also believe that t
Here is some kind of workaround I found:
1. When suspending, use "sudo pm-suspend" instead of the "Suspend" menu from
Gnome.
2. After resuming, your keyboard will be broken, but Gnome's password prompt
won't appear. This way you can still use your Desktop and do stuff with the
mouse.
3. Log off
