This bug hasn't been touched in a while, and I'm guessing it's not a
problem in more recent releases (emacs depends on emacs23 |
emacs23-lucid | emacs23-nox in Ubuntu 11.10). Perhaps this bug should
be closed?

Yeah, this seems bizarre to me as well.
Why does the emacs package have both 23.1 and 22.2 both listed in its
version string? It took me a long time to realise that it wasn't 23.1,
becase 23.1 comes first.
