Hello!
Kernel 2.6.31-17-generic + Toshiba P200-1J6, no more problem!
The new kernel boots perfectly without acpi=off.
LCD brightness now works!

Same problem here for Toshiba A200 laptop.
All fine in 9.04, but booting in 9.10 takes ages (it does boot if you are
patient and also keep waiting at the prompt).
For some reason it will shut down after some time.
Can anyone please fixt the next kernel release and release it ASAP?

I have a similar problem with a Toshiba satellite pro U400-182. 9.04
worked pretty well, but after upgrade to 9.10 I lost both ethernet and
wireless devices. I can use them by using grub acpi=off. Both linux-
image-2.6.31-14-generic and linux-image-2.6.31-15-generic

Hi, just tested the patch by recompiling the kernel from linux-source and it
solves the problem.
However on my drivers/acpi/pci_root.c the patch had to be added at lines 401
instead of 386. The new kernel boots perfectly without acpi=off.

Hi, same problem here.
Thank you for adding this patch in the next kernel-image release as acpi=off
removes lots of functionality from the laptop (battery information, volume knob
usage, automatic shutdown and more).
