I tried to deactivate KDEs Desktop Effects, same behavior, but you're right,
when i deactivate nvidia drivers in X its working.
So must be a Bug of nvidia driver 185 that comes with karmic

If you can't CTRL-ALT-F1, it's probably a Xorg issue : I think the only
thing you can do after is to reboot the system, don't you ? Can you
start jdownloader and upload your /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?
