I have the same problem with 1.5.0.7. It'd be nice if this problem can be fixed somehow. Something that may help: I uninstalled the mozilla- thunderbird package and installed the tar.gz archive (linux i686) on my own. The problem remains after transferring the "old" profile to the "new" profile. So
