It seems common enough for keys that were not be clean. I suggest that
if you have this issue, please try removing all partitions using gparted
before running usb-creator. Then once the disk is created, go back into
gparted and enable LBA flag on the partition. If you are able to
consistently repro

Sorry folks, this turns out to be some kind of USB stick and/or BIOS
problem.
I had copied the ISO image to the USB stick with 'USB Startup Disk
Creator' in Jaunty. It worked normally on an Acer Aspire One, but not
with the Thinkpad T41 (as outlined above).
Today, I copied the files again with m
