I have the same issue on 2 separate instances of 10.10
Workaround provided by Matt Wolfgang seems to work. Though what it does
is removes Broadcast from indicator-applet completely, but when you
start gwibber, it appears fine.

This bug also reappeared for me in ubuntu 10.10 (AMD64)
Gwibber appears like normal if not running.
Once the application is clicked and runs it is displayed twice. One time with
the running indicator and one time as if not running.

If it's fixed in Lucid, that means it's still a bug for 98% of users for
the next three months. I guess that's a fix released in the most
technical sense of the phrase.
I found a workaround. You can delete the Gwibber entry from
/usr/share/indicators/messages/applications.

The same problem occurs in the final release of Karmic with the latest
official package (2.0.0~bzr476-0ubuntu3), and the latest package from
