Got about the same problem with the Atheros 928 (on Acer Extensa 5230). The
problem started in Karmic: after about 1 minute signalstrength drops with 20
dB. I use WICD.
I installed the 2.6.31.17 generic-pae kernel (instead of the e 2.6.31.17
generic), and the problem was solved.
It has returned
I am using linux-backports-modules-karmic now and it works so far. Will
give it a little more time and see if the drivers are working correct
with this package. Just run:
apt-get install linux-backports-modules-karmic

Similar problem on Acer 5810TZ (with AR928X), wireless was fine on 9.04,
but on 9.10 it would disconnect after a few minutes and refuse to
reconnect, giving the security password dialog. After suspend it would

When connection hangs, sudo rmmod and sudo modprobe ath9k, they both
fail. The only way to get another 10-20 minutes of connection with
03:00.0 Network controller:
