I am using now Debian Squeeze stable distribution with following
alsa-mixer configuration
local@solo:~$ uname -a
Linux solo 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Tue Jun 14 09:42:28 UTC 2011 x86_64
GNU/Linux

11.10 has this problem on 32 bit. no sound at all

when there is no sound card detected by pulseaudio server and PA server
load "Dummy Output" module
aplay -l
aplay : device_list :235 no soundcards found...
application can still use the "pcm" device of pulse with "Dummy Output" module
but "ctl" device of pulse seem disappear

also i wasn't able to send the sound out through the phone jack i have hda
audio, in 9.10 the sound was getting out through virtual 5.1,
in the line in jack. with lots of noise...

could the users having the issues give details on what they are doing to
get the crash. is alsamixer listing any soundcard?
