I'm getting this too with similar Intel hardware. Was fine on Jaunty,
now pops on Karmic beta. The pop can be heard only on certain
sounds/apps (Workrave pops a lot, Banshee doesn't) and even when muted.
Seems to be a duplicate of bug 442718 and bug 442463?
