I can confirm this doesn't happen on Kubuntu Edgy RC 2006-10-19.
Tested on i386.

Am no longer seeing this problem in Kubuntu Edgy Beta 2006-09-28.
Tested on i386 and AMD64 live cds and partitioner always appears
correctly.
