My soundcard is also affected by this bug: Hoontech STA DSP24 (ICE1712); lists
only a "dummy output" in sound preferences. it worked fine in pre-pulseaudio
releases but now the only way i've figured out how

Thanks, the edit to defualt.pa worked for my Audiotrak Maya1010 - also
using ICE1712. Would be nice for it to work out of the box though.

My card also worked fine under Jaunty, but the underlying issue is the
same. Different cards of the same family appear to have had slightly
different issues, but the workarounds, and ultimately the final fix,

I am not sure if this bug is a duplicate, as you say #bug 178442 is a
long standing issue, but my soundcard worked perfectly under Jaunty, and
stopped working out of the box in Karmic.

Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE
Interesting, I can't get pulseaudio to start if I leave that line in.
But then, I have my internal soundcard disabled in the BIOS, so that
might be the reason.

Ok, I can also use my internal soundcard, if I don't uncomment the line
load-module module-udev-detect
I would also be grateful if this could be fixed until 10.04 (or earlier)

Hi pablomme,
Thank you very much, adding the two lines and uncommenting the udev section
worked for me. Unfortunatly when uncommenting the udev section, I don't have
access to my internal soundcard...

I can confirm this too, on a Delta 1010. Will gladly help test once a
fix is available. I would suggest this is a high priority issue, having
a whole family of pro sound cards broken for a whole distro cycle would
be rather unflattering.

EWS88MT too.

brackets, e.g. "M1010LT" in my case:

Then add the following at the end of /etc/pulse/default.pa, replacing
M1010

A possible workaround could be to insert the analog outputs and inputs
manually into /etc/pulse/default.pa , but I don't know exactly how to do
that
