I've installed new nvidia 190.42 from ppa and the scroll problem seems
to be disappeared.

Seems to be any scrolling, just scrolling through a long list of
bookmarks in firefox 3.0 does it, or a list of files in nautilus, though
not if it's icons, only a list.

I notice the same behaviour running nvidia 185 driver with compiz
enabled in Opera web browser. Scrolling further down the page to clear
the gap off the screen and returning back to the same spot seems make
the blank area disappear. I've also had X lock on occasion when I scroll
quickly down a page
