After subsequent updates through the terminal, the problem seems fixed.
I am attaching an image of the frozen windows which I have forgotten to
include earlier. and I hope this helps.

It's similar to 445303. I get past the password screen and it freezes
when the progress meter appears. Then, the two windows freeze (the
update manager + progress meter). From here on, I get various results
because yesterday I updated through the terminal.

What is the problem with running from the GUI? What actually happens? Are you
experiencing something similar
to what is described in
