I started to get this bug (9.10 AMD 64) after the most recent updates on
November 4, 2009. The crash is reported right after I log on. I don't
remember what all the updates were unfortunately but I think Xsplash was
one of them. I'm not using Compiz, just Metacity with compositing turned
on.

I am also using compiz and had yesterday converted my Visual effects to
custom. It could be a reason.

I believe it has something to do with compiz and/or Xorg.
After I hvad used the "Appearance Preferences -> Visual Effects -> Custom ->
Preferences"
I've got this crash on two different installs of Karmic Koala.
Xorg also use alot more CPU%. Before I changed these settings I used the
"Appearance P
Now I have changed back to "Appearance Preferences -> Visual Effects -> Extra"
and it seems like it is back to using GPU.
Too bad, I liked my custom settings... o well...
