The beta version (8.660) of the ATI driver seems to fix this problem. At
least it compiled fine on 2.6.31-14.44 kernel.

Failiure ... looks like this solution isn't for Kubuntu probably because
it's a debian linux and Mandriva is a mandrake linux. Well that's just a
guess of course. Or maybe i made a mistake somewhere in the process but
anyway i had to re-installed Kubuntu 9.10 Beta. The rev of the ATI
Catalyst drive
I can confirm that Epsux' solution works. A new kernel with the
mentioned patch reverted solved my problem.

Tx for the info but why the driver worked perfercly with previous
versions of the kernel(2.6.31-10 and previous versions present in
Kubuntu 9.10 Alpha 4( Alpha 4 installed with the 2.6.31-5.24 kernel
based on 2.6.31-rc5, see http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/karmic/alpha4 for
more info) and Alpha 5(Al
This is caused by the fact that kernel 2.6.31 no longer exports the
symbol find_task_by_vpid that is needed by the fglrx module. I solved
this by compiling my own kernel after reverting the following changeset
in the source.
