There was an update 2 days ago that included a patch to fix this for
intel drivers (I have intel graphics). Perhaps you still have the
problem because you have ati graphics, rather than intel.

Which update are you referring to Matthew?
I still see this problem on karmic beta with all updates installed. This
didn't happen with metacity and the "ati" graphics driver, but as soon
as I enabled fglrx and compiz, this started happening to me too.
