Well, I did a full upgrade, but the network-manager-gnome package seems
to have been released a couple of hours later than nm-applet. Did
another upgrade now, with new network-manager-gnome, and everything
works fine here too.

you also need to upgrade the network-manager-gnome package to latest. If
that + restarting your system does not work, please reopen.
