This is no longer an issue, you can now install an application by
selecting it in the software list view and clicking the install button.

Thanks for your bugreport.
Your input will be part of the design process for version 2 in lucid. At
this point we can not change the UI anymore. I agree that it would be
nice to have a way to install a application without going to the details
page.
