Public bug reported:

can live cd amd64 install option be used (fresh install) successfully at
this time ? I have tried it twice with no luck; the install display at
94% completion (scanning for other os step) pure and simple switches to
a black screen with no messages then the pc locks.
above the question as posted on launchpad. additional info below

- live cd boots and loads ok with a functional desktop including wireless
conn'n (usb dongle).
- first install attempt - on install routine were created just 2 new
partitions, a / ext4 and swap both primary on 32 gb new usb connected cf card
and on 'advanced' tab selected bootloader install on sdc1 the / part.
- second install attempt - three new part created as follows: at the v
beginning of hd a pri /boot created (sdc1) then a / logical sdc5 both ext4 with
the bootloader install on /boot.

on both attempts the install failed as described above. the file systems
were found on the partitions except on /grub that was empty. didn't try
grub recovery via chroot. is it possible to get grub2 installed on
logical partitions ? on

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2

there is mention of MBR recovery only.
