Same problem with lucid and Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME.
Hotkeys work but there is no software control over panel brightness. The
panel wont dim when disconnected from AC power but remember this working
fine with Moblin.

there's nothing the system can do to read the brightness values because
the keys are hardwired and there's no backlight device?
