There are two ways of using the apple remote receiver: an in-kernel
input driver and a user-space lirc driver. As stated in the bug report,
the lirc driver requires some extra setup and has a repeat key issue in
Karmic. However, LIRC is the preferred method for remote input device

I am puzzled as to how this is not a bug. The appleir module, which is a
kernel patch that Ubuntu provided, made my Apple remote work fine. This
patch has now been withdrawn by Ubuntu, though it is still available for
up-to-date kernels; I'm working on finding out from the author, Bastien
Nocera, e
