Missing feature in Karmic to be fixed in Lucid. Requires an extension to
the new gdm to allow for directly switching to an opened user session,
as opposed to just showing up the greeter

This is happening to me also, and is reported to me over irc by other
team members. I also see other issues regarding GDM being visible, then
xsplash appearing before GDM is visible again, etc...
It seems that perhaps GDM does not well support this feature. At this
