This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

Installed Karmic on a Dell Inspiron 1525 when it came out. No problems
for the first few days; started shutting down randomly while watching
videos, but I only just figured out what was the cause after checking
the syslog and realising the fan was really loud.

Installed Karmic on a Acer Aspire 5315 over the weekend. System started
shutting down randomly. Finally, I saw a CPU over temp warning in
dmesg. This turned out to be the cause of the shutdowns. With Karmic
installed, I never heard the fan kick on at all. Reverted to a backup
of Jaunty and fan
I installed Arch Linux with KDEmod 4.3 and I do not have this problem.

I have the same issue on Acer Aspire 5720Z. I have read about Acer
related ACPI bugs a lot and all of the descriptions seem slightly
different, some people say their fan is on all the time, some have
problems after second suspend, the one above seems to be closest to what
I experience and I can say
