As I wrote: I do not currently have any Fit-PC1 running Ubuntu of any
sort, so I can not test right now. And although I could boot a live-cd
and test, I can not do so right now - sorry.
Anything I can collect from Debian to show you instead?

Yes - last attempt with Ubuntu 10.04 approx. 1 month ago, when I re-
installed one of my two Fit-PC1 units. After two attempts with Lucid, I
gave up and went for Debian 5, which is now running on both and playing
like a charm with 1280x1024. I really would have preferred Ubuntu as
