While the master volume is still rather poorly calibrated for my
headphones, i.e. showing the described issues, at least I can now use
the application volume slider to increase or decrease the volume to a
value I like. So I'm marking this fixed.

pulseaudio, released a few hours ago. Can you verify that it is the
