i have the same problem with my 1000he eeepc Laptop Intel 945 GME chipset ...i
updated from the 9.04 to 9.10 Karmic and on Jaunty everythings was fine but
with Karmic, i met big problems :

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad SL500 with Intel VGA and I'm experiencing the
same problem almost always if I restart karmic. If I shutdown and bootup
again it will happen 2 of 5 times.

The problem still occurs with the latest updates, but without
blacklisting agpgart. I'm now blacklisting agpgart, and see if the
problem persists.

Just recently saw another bug with an agpgart prolem: bug 430925. In
that case it worked if th agpgart module was blacklisted. Could you try
that and see what happens? That bug resolved itself with an update.
Could you check if the same happens for you?
