Had to implement suggestion from Chris Coulson repeatedly to get back to
a working system.
And intermediate update broke my X, and the system would boot only to
runlevel 2. Kept repeating the apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade
commands. Update performed on 24-25 Sep 2009 restored my X to usab
thanks, but thats not a bug. You've just got an out-of-date package
list. You either need to run "sudo apt-get update" or click the "Check"
button in update-manager
