Argh I didn't read VJS's comment about the monitors.xml file. I also had
that bastard ~/.config/monitors.xml . The resolution was set to 1440*900
in there. How did that file get there??

I have the same problem with Lucid. I'm attaching the xorg.conf file. No
matter what's in this file to resolution will be 1440*900 after login.
It's easy to change it to 1920*1080 because the driver detects the
monitor properly.

I think I have the same issue since I upgraded to Karmic.
I have an Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 and an Amilo LSL 3230T screen which has a
native resolution of 1920*1080. At the login screen the resolution is correct
but after I login it switches to 1440*900. It is possible to change it back
manually
