Switched to Karmic Beta (yesterday released).
Decided to do fresh install instead of upgrade. In this release, ath_pci has
gone away, ath5k is the only option for the user now and ath_pci is not
supported anymore.
So, the originally reported problem 'went away' for me.

Care to try testing with the newer Karmic 9.10 Alpha release? It
contains a much newer 2.6.31 base kernel. Please let us know your
