I'm using ca_ES locale. And yes, pango is disabled by default, because
it's much slower. There was a discussion about pango in Firefox:

Now I've just tested Firefox and has the same problem, so maybe this is
the bug source. And the sa
/usr/share/gconf/schemas/epiphany-pango.schemas sets false for
/schemas/apps/epiphany/web/enable_pango the majority of locales. Which
locales are you using? I'm not sure this should be a general default.

I also suffer this bug in Edgy, epiphany 2.16.1-0ubuntu2.
I created a new user to try the default configuration and the bug it's
still here.
However, I've found a workaround: activate pango renderer gconf key:
/apps/epiphany/web/enable_pango . Then all fonts are properly shown.

user? Can you try to figure if that's due to the configuration and to
what file or setting by example?

Yes, I can still reproduce this exact issue with 2.14.3-0ubuntu1 from
