We won't be forcing people to switch on upgrade, but most fresh installs
(there may be a few exceptions for weird disk types) will use GRUB 2.
I'm not going to change the status of this bug yet, though.

I see. Will GRUB Legacy be an option in karmic? Or will everyone be
forced to switch to GRUB 2? If everyone's on GRUB 2 and the situation
will be better there, then I'm content with leaving this as a Won't Fix.
If GRUB Legacy will still be used, I'd say definitely include this in
the Known Issues
This is, in one form or another, a very long-running issue - probably
one of the oldest major bugs in Ubuntu - and indeed having one SATA
drive and one PATA drive is one way to increase the probability of
triggering it. The problem is basically unfixable in GRUB Legacy without
causing some other pi
I forgot to mention the important detail that sda is a SATA drive and
sdb a PATA one.
