My systems are affected by this too, AMD Athlon64 running 32bit Karmic
and Athlon64 AM2+ running 64bit Karmic, both do the same thing, except
mine goes pink, not yellow, ALL Virtual Terminals affected. Any news on
if/when this will be resolved?

I have exactly the same problem (virtual terminal are scrambled with
different colors but it is of cours not usable). It is maybe related to
the kernel version because it works when I use the older kernel 2.6.28.
I installed karmic and it did not work with kernel version 2.6.31-13
after the latest
Don't know if it's related, but when pressing CTRL+ALT+F{1..6} my screen
turns all yellow and I can't access the virtual terminal.
CTRL+ALT+F7 is the only one working.
