This has been solved for quite a while. If anyone gets around to
noticing, the bug should be closed. Thanks!

Woohoo! Suspend started working for me after the latest upgrade -- just
did it ~5 a.m. Sept 16 2009 UTC (local PDT 10 pm). If this stays stable
for a while and other see the same thing, I should close this bug out.

Everthing definitely was working normally prior to August 26. Still
broken here, but in the meantime I've cobbled up an awful hack to make
things sorta work in the meantime. Just a little shell script attached:

@Joe:
I also saw that suspend worked WITH compositing in Alpha4. And I totally
agree that it's about time to get decent compositing performance with
the Intel graphics cards. I am extremely happy about the new Intel
drivers in general; great performance!
What I was not sure about was whether kmix
@hasi, this was working when I installed Alpha 4, it is a regression. I
had to wait for years for desktop effects to work on Intel cards, it
absoultely should work correctly. Suspend probably will work without
effects, but I want them on, and this was working perfectly before some
update broke it.
I just found that when I successfully resume (compositing off) two
applications (widgets) are no longer running: kmix and knetworkmanager.
They can easily be restarted manually. However, this should be ironed
out before release.
I am not sure if this is related to the behavior described here or if
Oh, and I forgot to tell that I am running the 32bit version of karmic.

I see it on a Dell Latitude E6400 (Intel GMA 4500 graphics). I can
confirm that the problem does not occur when compositing is turned off.
One more observation: the problem seems to progress and get worse after
resume. Initially, I can use the keyboard and mouse to operate what's
left with some fu
I'm having the same issue on a machine with intel GM965 graphics device.
kwin hangs after resuming from suspend-to-ram when compositioning is enabled.
After resuming and entering the password the kde panel is missing and windows
do not respond to mouse and keyboard events.
After killing kwin the
I've attached a screenshot showing the problem. Kwin is still running
(according to `ps aux | grep kwin`) and alt-tab still works. However the
window decorations are gone and so is plasma. This bug makes suspend
pretty much useless.

I am also running the AMD64 version. I installed from the alternate CD
because I use disk encryption and the live cd installer is still
crippled.

I can confirm that I am having the same problem on my Dell Latitude
E6400, which has very similar hardware. This worked when I first
installed Karmic Alpha 4 so this is some sort of regression.
I've attached a clean (i.e. not after crash/corruption) copy of
Xorg.0.log.

New info: the problem is with compositing, making kwin a possible
culprit.
When compositing is turned off, suspend works normally. When it is on,
all components with any transparency at all become 100% transparent.
They are still active and can be "found" using the cursor, they're just
invisible.
I experience the same problem.
KDE desktop effects enabled, otherwise all graphics settings unchanged
from whatever was auto-detected during installation.
