Apparently was running with previous kernel (rc6), due to hangdown bug
with rc7. but running kernel makes no difference.

Last week I added the xorg-edgers PPA, this installed a new package:
libdrm-radeon1 and I experienced this bug.
Downgrading the packages and removing the PPA fixed it. My guess is that
some changes from xorg-edgers have filtered down to vanilla Karmic and
the bug has come down with it. I haven't u
