speakers are creaking because two programs r accessing them. this fixed that problem for me. almost willing to bet fix all sound issues in karmic, unless hardware completely doesnt support it, like SIS graphics software conflict, this should fix it since this is a microsoft, i mean software conf

Same as Andrelo : In etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf you just have to comment #options snd- hda-intel power_save=10 to solve the problem. I have asked on ubuntu forums and it seems that a lot of people have that problem. No idea what impact ther is to disable the power save function. -- Speaker
