I can confirm this behaviour. But gnome-mount -d mounts correctly for
me:
$ ls -l
total 16
drwx-- 2 sur root 4096 2009-03-18 19:42 Calendars
drwx-- 2 sur root 4096 2009-03-18 19:42 Contacts
drwx-- 7 sur root 4096 2009-03-18 18:17 iPod_Control
drwx-- 2 sur root 4096 2009-03-18 19:42
I'm getting this too, except gnome-mount -d also mounts as root.

Correction, if you unmount it from the desktop first, then you can mount
it via command line as user.
