It sounded like you had added the noapic option for the Dapper kernels
yourself. I wouldn't expect Karmic to enable this by default. If it is
let us know. I'm closing this for now as it seems to not be an issue.

I have now gone 24 hours and preformed a 2 gb file transfer with no
lockup. I am pretty sure the removal of the NOAPIC option in boot up has
for now solved my problem. I have no clue why but it is working so far.
