Tonights update seems to have fixed it. Both a gedit and a gvfs update
came through.

Same error for me:
** (gedit:5590): CRITICAL **: document_saved: assertion `error->domain
== G_CONVERT_ERROR' failed
Saves the file correctly but locks the document such that no further
modifications can be made. Have to close gedit and reopen to work on
the document again.

I'm getting the same error on the latest Ubuntu 9.10. I encountered it
on SFTP and on SMB shares mounted via gvfs/nautilus. But I noticed that
gedit does save the changes to the document, even if it says otherwise.
But it disables saving altogether for this document until you close it.
