I use "always show the icon".
Today the icon changed from "battery indicator with power" to just
"power" without my interference. I needed to restart the computer to
show the correct symbol again.
The bug happens now and then and is still there.

Try this.
Go to System. then Preferences. Then Power Management.
Then click the General Tab. Then look at the "Notification Area" section,
Then pick which one you would like to have.

When the mouse pointer is over the power symbol (when it should be a
battery) says: "Computer is running on battery power." This text is
correct.
