I think that lyx already supports interaction with octave and similar. I
do not know if these can be used to plot functions though. There also is
the possiblity of insert "external material" of various forms. Please
consult the lyx documentation or ask for support in the appropriate
channels re

Would be very nice if Lyx can plot figures using the formulas in the
document, it's like the plot function in scientific workplace.
