Thanks a lot for the fix. I just wish there was some way by which the
volume level can also be turned up to get normal results.

The workaround works for me with Intrepid, and it looks like this one
should be gone in Karmic. I *think* this situation is what "Fix
Committed" is for...

Using the dell-m6 option in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf works for the
audio. Thanks.
However, it does create one small problem. The "Mic as Output" option is
no longer available. So no surround sound.
