This is still a bug in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
Has just happened to me for a second time, had to do a complete re-
install since upgrade left my system so unstable. After a few days use
after clean re-install it has happened again.
Synaptic can be started from the command line with sudo but fai
