Thank you for your confirmation! The other issue you mentioned seems
like a temporary issue (these should be expected in a alpha release).
However if the problem can be reproduced in the future, this is another
bug and if you wish, don't hesitate to open a new bug report for it.

This is fine now, upgrading worked fine, apart from when gdm loaded up
the screen looked like it was at the wrong resolution, i.e. the screen
was bigger than the viewable monitor size, but this was fixed easily by
disabling laptop monitor again as it reasserted itself (external monitor

Teej : Does that problem still happen if you update karmic? I had a very
similar bug 391478 fixed yesterday by busybox-initramfs
(1:1.13.3-1ubuntu3).

Note Karmic is installed to a USB thumbdrive, haven't had any problems
with this kind of setup before, it's used for testing/triaging.
