FIXED on my system by installing wvdial!
run "sudo apt-get install wvdial", reboot and it worked.

Fresh install of Kubuntu 9.10 Beta, KDE 4.3.2, Sierra Wireless USB 598
(Sprint) will not connect. Connects just fine on my WINXP laptop. I
switched from Fedora 11 and this card worked perfectly out of the box on
Gnome and KDE in Fedora.

I didn't get to check if this netstick works on another kubuntu . it
worked perfectly before I updated this version. and it still works well
with windows.
the connection is clean of any dust etc.

sef also tried creating a mobile broadband connection in the connection
manager plasmoid but it didn't succeed in connecting, nor it gave any
messages on the desktop.
