[ 15.612398] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
[ 15.612408] Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
The nVidia module is not being inserted into the kernel at boot time.
Also nVidia lists the card as legacy. They are making no more updates
to the driver. Xorg has moved on.
I'd like to see dmesg with the 185 driver..

Andreas: see comments #5- #21, dmesg available there.
And yes, using clean Karmic kernel. -19 above but upgraded to -20 after this.
This is the computer of my sister so I don't have 24/7 access. I might
have remote access every now and then though and live.. well.. much less
often..

Risto: OK. Are you using an Ubuntu provided kernel? Can you also attach the
output of dmesg after boot?
Also, is it possible for you to test with Lucid?

nVidia GeForce2 MX 400 video driver fails in karmic
I disagree with the status change.
What's the source telling that MX400 is no longer supported?
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/nvidia-glx-96 says that MX400 should
still be..

Sorry folks. I hadn't checked in on this in some time.
I believe the issue has turned out to be that the said GPU is in
nVidia's legacy pile and is no longer supported.
This was a very old test machine which I no longer use.
