Hi Ulrik,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

I tried the vanilla 2.6.30 kernel, still with the same problem. But then
I applied to patch proposed in the above-mentioned thread, which
resolved the problem.

I have similar problem using Kubuntu 9.04 with vanilla 2.6.30 kernel,
sound skipping is present in mplayer (and all of it's frontends) but no
skipping in all xine-based apps (amarok, kaffeine, etc.) and vlc. It
seems that this is a regression in a new alsa code:
