This was a buggy translation. I've fixed it in Rosetta. The fix should
land in the next language-pack update.

It looks like it.
You should be able to work around the issue for now by changing the file
extension when creating the gallery in Totem.

What language pack are you using in the OS?
I am running the same ubuntu/totem versions, but I cannot reproduce the
issue (it saves by default as .jpg)
